A greenelectrolyzer was built at the Simmering site on behalf of Wiener Wasserstoff GmbH for Wiener Stadtwerke, Wien Energie and Wiener Netze. This container-based and therefore space-saving 3MW electrolysis plant can produce around 1,300 kg of hydrogen per day. Climate neutrality by 2040 – the City of Vienna has set itself this ambitious goal. With its own green hydrogen production, Wiener Wasserstoff GmbH is taking an important step towards achieving this goal.
The hydrogen is used in the mobility sector with a hydrogen filling station operated by our sister company Maximator Hydrogen for refueling primarily buses and trucks. Wien Energie also uses the green hydrogen in its own power plant fleet and makes it available to industrial partners.
With the exception of the dry cooler and the refrigeration system, all the components and parts of the greenelectrolyzer required for the process are installed in two 40-foot containers to save space, resulting in a very high degree of prefabrication and reducing the assembly time on site to a minimum.
