Infraserv GmbH & Co. Höchst KG in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, has taken over the refueling of 27 hydrogen trains for the state of Hesse’s public transport system (Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund).
To this end, the company operates one of the largest PEM electrolysis plants in Germany at Industriepark Höchst. It also has the largest hydrogen train fleet in the world and the first passenger train powered by hydrogen fuel cells.
Additional hydrogen capacity was required for the refueling infrastructure. The electrolysis plant planned by us for this purpose is mainly put into operation when the existing hydrogen production plant is undergoing maintenance and also serves as an “emergency unit”.
The plant, which went into operation for the first time in December 2022, produces hydrogen in 5.0 quality. The hydrogen can be produced here using both conventional processes and green electricity via PEM electrolysis. This first multi-MW plant offers space for maintenance and creates the basis for series production of operational electrolysis plants that can be expanded into complete systems.
